Fineness test of flyash
Test standard: IS 1727:1967
Apapratus:
Apparatus for Fineness test of Flyash, Pozolanic material IS 1727-1967
- 45µ IS Sieve
- Weighing balance of accuracy 0.1% of weight of sample
- Hot air oven
- Brush
Procedure:
Take 200 gms of representative sample from the lot of sample, test sample shall be prepared from the representative sample by quartering method. Take 100 gms (say W1, gms) of test sample & place it over the 45micron IS Sieve. Wash the material by jet of water & keep it well agitated. The washing shall continue till it appears no more turbid. Dry the sieve and the residue in a oven. Brush the residue from the sieve after drying and weigh on a weighing balance of accuracy 0.1 gms (say W2, gms)
Calculation:Particle retained on 45 IS Sieve (%) shall be calculated as = (W2/W1) x 100
Test result shall be reported to the nearest 0.1%
Limit : It should be not more than 34 % as per IS 3812
